Celebrate World Pasta Day with Vitto: Join the Pasta Party!
Buongiorno, pasta lovers! Did you know that October 25th is World Pasta Day? Yep, it’s a real thing (and one of the best days of the year, in our humble opinion!) A whole day dedicated to celebrating our mealtime hero, so we thought we’d take this opportunity to sprinkle a little pasta love all over your kitchen.
Grab your forks and let’s dive into the delicious world of our favourite carb.
Mamma Mia, I didn’t know that!
- Did you know that the earliest recorded pasta recipe can be traced back to the 13th Century? And thus began the tradition of Nonna’s arguing over whose recipe is the best (hint: it’s YOUR Nonnas, of course!)
- There are over 310 specific forms of pasta known by over 1,300 documented names. We won’t list them all here but give them a google and check out these cool shapes: gemelli, campanelle and mafaldi.
- In Italy, the names of specific pasta shapes or types often vary by locale. For example, the pasta form cavatelliis known by 28 different names depending upon the town and region. That’s a lot of names for a little piece of pasta!
- According to the International Pasta Organisation, Italians consume an average of 600 million kilometres of spaghetti per year. This would be enough to wrap the entire planet approximately 15,000 times. You’d DEFINITELY need a bowl of pasta after all that! Phew!
- Naturally, when it comes to sheer volume of pasta consumed, Italy ranks top, with 23.5 kilograms per person annually, closely followed by Tunisia (17 kilograms), Greece (11 kilograms), and the United States (8.8 kilograms). Come on Britain, call yourself pasta lovers?!
- It’s a terrible faux pas to cut your spaghetti in Italy, regardless of what region you are in, it will certainly elicit a frown or two from our Italian friends! Why not grab a packet of Vitto spaghetti and practice your perfect fork twirl to really impress on your next trip to Italy.
- Spaghetti Bolognese is not a real Italian dish! (yep, we know!) or certainly not as the Brits would recognise it. On Italian tables the ragu would never normally be served with the slim spindles of spaghetti, but rather its thicker, flatter cousin tagliatelle, better able to carry the hearty meat sauce. But here at Vitto we don’t judge, and we won’t tell the Italians if you still want to eat your Bolognese sauce with spaghetti. (The clever humans behind Vitto all live and work in Bologna, so we fact checked all of this with them)

The Secret Ingredient? It’s in the Durum Wheat! 🌾
At Vitto, we don’t mess around when it comes to pasta quality. Our pasta is made from 100% Italian durum wheat—straight from the sun-soaked fields of Italy. This golden grain gives our pasta that perfect al dente texture and bite, making it the perfect base for any sauce you throw its way. It's what makes our penne and spaghetti stand out from the crowd.
Penne: The Versatile Pasta That Always Gets the Job Done
Penne named for its ‘pen’ like shape - a good all-rounder, at its best when paired with a chunky sauce.
Spaghetti: The Queen of the Pasta Kingdom
Long, lean, and always stylish, spaghetti is the perfect pasta for twirling, and creating your signature ‘spag bol’ – sorry Italy!
